Today I rode both my horses in the round pen in a halter and bareback. Briefly. After all it was 100 degrees out.
I'm teaching Smokey to neck rein. He did very well.
I'm perfecting my side pass on Lily. She told me I was doing much better.
I think I'm getting ready to get back in the pool.

ReplyDeleteOne toe at a time is all it takes. Glad you got in some rides despite the heat. If all you did was ride in the round pen for a year, that would be just fine, or anything else you decide - there's no rush and no deadlines.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Kate. Take your time. Don't be surprised if the fear comes back occasionally. It will do that for awhile before it fades into the background.

ReplyDeleteVery cool. Bareback is still my favorite way to ride, although it's a guaranteed sweaty backside this time of year :) I like what Kate says here...wise words.
ReplyDeleteOne toe today, two toes next time. Confidence is something that doesn't come all at once, it has to be earned. And safety is more important than bravado. Nice that you can also use this time as a learning time for your horses.

ReplyDeletebut good for you! and sometimes, it's good just to get on a horse for just a few minutes. doesn't always have to be an hour or several hours and work work work.
